DENNIS DURBAND
Dear Republican Party ... Feb. 16, 2008
Dear Republican Party, I am a 53-year-old consumer, and I have a presidential vote to spend this fall. I am looking for a worthy product for my vote in the November general election. I was born and raised in the nation’s most Republican county; I have voted Republican all my life. This year, for the first time in my voting life, I am not planning to vote for the Republican Party’s liberal candidate for president. Years ago, I bought into the Republican Party’s official platform. This is a wonderful document that talks about the value of human life (my starting point on all candidates), limited government, a strong national defense, a robust economy and more. But something is wrong in the Republican organization. Many “Republicans” have shown a blatant disregard for the platform. John McCain is one of these “Republicans.” No corporation or private business could survive if its top leaders disdained their corporate philosophy. None would tolerate a rogue executive. Furthermore, McCain has spit in my eye for the past several years. He has not been loyal to our party; I have been. He has consorted with our opponents; I have not. He has legislated with leftists; I have not. He is vulgar and bigoted; I am not. He has articulated the pro-choice view; I have not. He has defied the United States Constitution; I have not. He has accepted money from radical counterculture groups; I have not. He has shown disregard for U.S. immigration law; I have not. Many of McCain's supporters helped a liberal get elected to the governorship of our state and supported the re-election efforts of a Democratic mayor in Phoenix. My hands are clean of those traitorous activities. In the past few days, I have heard other Republicans criticize McCain. I am criticizing McCain. Other “Republicans” have responded to us by saying “grow up,” “calm down,” “get in line.” I feel like a prisoner being herded into a stockade. I have never seen such overt contempt for Republicans. I am greatly insulted! No one has done more than McCain to divide this party. He is being rewarded. I am being vilified. I am currently doing a consumer review of the Constitution Party’s candidate. This is a party with solid values and unquestioned loyalty to the United States Constitution. There is no room for renegades in the Constitution Party. The party’s candidate will be selected in April, and I will be paying close attention to the outcome of the selection process. The Constitution Party consistently nominates candidates who believe in the U.S. Constitution and who understand the proper roles of leadership and of the federal government. Many in my Republican Party do not. My party is losing respect for the sanctity of life, and I am very concerned about that. I will never give my vote away to someone who will not support the sanctity of life. Nor will I give away my voting power to anyone who equivocates about life. The same goes for the border invasion. No one promoting amnesty will receive my vote. If the GOP is not concerned about my vote or providing a quality product for consumers, why should I be concerned about the party’s success when it provides an inferior product? Remember, I am a consumer and I am looking for the best product to spend my vote on. I’m not playing “your game.” I will not be forced to vote for McCain. We are now virtually assured of having a liberal president for the next four years. This is very troubling. The new president, whomever it is, will undoubtedly do grave damage to the United States Supreme Court. Several prominent Americans have expressed an interest in seeking the Constitution Party's presidential nomination. Among them are former United States Senator Bob Smith; former Alabama Chief Justice, Roy Moore; the 2004 Vice-Presidential Nominee of the Constitution Party, Chuck Baldwin; WorldNetDaily. com writer and author of the best selling "The Late, Great USA", Dr. Jerome Corsi; and former ambassador to the United Nations, Alan Keyes. There may be other candidates for the nomination. I am not “throwing away my vote.” I am not “assuring the election of a Democrat.” You and others have already assured that a liberal will ascend to the presidency. I take no responsibility in doing that. I am a consumer. I am not responsible for the election of liberals, and I am certainly not beholden to them for any kind of support. You keep treating me as if I were an indentured servant. The ball is in your court. I do not want a letter from someone like Marc Racicot, Ed Gillespie or other party shills who try to gain support for liberals with empty talk and hollow rhetoric. From what I hear and read, there are many, many Republicans who are as disenchanted as I am. Many say they will stay home on Election Day. I am going to the poll on Election Day to vote for conservative candidates. I am a consumer. I am looking for a good product on Election Day. Do you get the message?
