Susan G. Komen Foundation + Planned Parenthood = Culture of Death October 14, 2005
I am a recovering participant of the annual Susan G. Komen Foundation “Race for the Cure” 5K road races. Like thousands of other people across the nation, I figured I was contributing to the noble cause of breast cancer research. We all figured wrong. Dead wrong. A better name for this fundraising farce is “Race against the cure.” The Family Research Council broke the bad news five years ago that Komen contributes grants from its race proceeds to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. Scientists worldwide have proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that abortion greatly increases the likelihood that women will develop breast cancer. Since Komen gives money to an organization engaged in abortions, it is defeating its own purpose for existing. This is why I speak out against the Susan G. Komen Foundation and its close ally, Planned Parenthood. Thanks to the organization Life Issues, we now have more precise information about the culture of death alliance between Planned Parenthood and the Komen Foundation. Susan G. Komen has awarded Phoenix affiliate grants to Planned Parenthood in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2005, totaling $33,200. Your “Race against the Cure” entry fees contributed to this total. In addition, Komen awarded a grant to the Lesbian Cancer Project in 2004. Among Komen’s Southern Arizona affiliate grant recipients are Wingspan -- Southern Arizona Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community, in 2004, and the YWCA for outreach to lesbians in 2000 and 2002. So much for letting real breast cancer research get in the way of good radical, leftist activism. What they have created instead is a system in which a large foundation preys upon the sympathies of people who have lost loved ones to breast cancer. Komen induces thousands of runners and walkers to attend a “charitable” cause, then gives some of its proceeds to an abortion provider which sells abortions and increases the chances of women getting breast cancer. The Phoenix affiliate of Komen is reporting the donation of a grant to "Planned Parenthood for Breast Health Education and Screening Campaign in Coconino, Maricopa and Yavapai Counties $33,200." Fry's Food Stores was the "VIP Sponsor" of the Phoenix fundraiser this year. Additional sponsors: The Junior League of Phoenix, Ford Dealers, Pink Daisy Partner, Channel 12 News, Nextcare Urgent Care, MTI Communications, America West Arena, APS, Big O Tires, DSW, The Bamboo Club, Wildflower Bread Company, Gila River Casinos, Shonna James Communications, Native New Yorker, Propel Fitness Water, First Horizon Home Loans, Bard, Cigna Health Care, P.S. Komen’s Personnel Ties to Planned Parenthood The Komen Foundation is very closely intertwined with Planned Parenthood. Nancy Brinker, the founder of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, has served on the advisory board of Planned Parenthood of Dallas. In 2003, Planned Parenthood received a record $475,000 from Susan G. Komen affiliates all across the nation, and Planned Parenthood of Dallas built a new $5 million facility. Linda Custard, a current member of the Susan G. Komen Foundation national board of directors, is pictured and listed in the Planned Parenthood of North Texas newsletter as a donor. Monica Leonard of the Sacramento Valley Susan G. Komen affiliate once worked at Planned Parenthood Golden Gate. Philadelphia Komen affiliate board member John Briggs has also served on the advisory board for Planned Parenthood. The Komen Foundation keeps giving grants to Planned Parenthood, and Planned Parenthood keeps giving awards to the Komen Foundation. It’s a tight culture of death relationship. Both leftist organizations scratch each other’s back. As reported by Life Issues: Brinker received the Gertrude Shelburne Humanitarian Award from Planned Parenthood of North Texas in 1996. Gertrude Shelburne established Planned Parenthood in Dallas in 1982, and was a friend of Margaret Sanger, the racist/eugenist who founded Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood of North Texas gave an award to the co-chair of the Fort Worth Race for the Cure. Planned Parenthood of North Texas thanked the Susan G. Komen Foundation Collin and Tarrant County Affiliates in their newsletter for granting Planned Parenthood of North Texas $46,430 in 2004. Planned Parenthood of Southeast Michigan formed a team for the Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for Cure. Komen’s Colorado Springs affiliate hosted a health fair where they included Planned Parenthood as a "health partner." Komen lists the local Planned Parenthood Health Centers as a resource on most of their affiliate websites and vice versa. Komen and Planned Parenthood are both involved in the Texas Medical Center Women's Health Network. Planned Parenthood of Southeast Michigan participated in the Susan G. Komen Lee National Denim Day in 2001. Planned Parenthood of Lubbock is listed as a sponsor of the Lubbock Race for the Cure in 1998 & 1999. Arizona Race against the Cure Leaders The 2005-2006 Officers for the Phoenix “Race against the Cure” include: Kay Thompson, president; Catherine Midgette, Vice President; Wendy Wyatt, secretary; Laura Patt, treasurer; and board members: Rebecca Barranca, Rita Block, Jeri Burkett, Miriam Hayenga, Anita Helt, Marci Hendrickson, Denise McClain, Jean Moore, Charlie Thompson and Channel 12 newswoman Lin Sue Cooney (ex officio).
