DENNIS DURBAND
Dear Rudy: No
By Dennis Durband
Dear Mr. Giuliani, You may be the frontrunner for the GOP nomination for president, but as a party base conservative, the answer must be “no.” I cannot and will never vote for you – not for mayor, not for governor and especially not for president. It all starts with the life issue. If you can’t get that one right, you cannot be trusted with other issues. It’s as simple as that. A candidate’s worldview must respect human life enough not to abort them, not to clone them, not to experiment with them and not to discard them when they have debilitating injuries or diseases. If Misters Reagan, Lincoln and Washington had seen you dressed as a woman in a homosexual pride parade, they would have said to you what I’m about to say: you are not worthy of office in the people’s White House. Mayors tend to be given extraordinary credit in times of tragedy, as you were. That’s fine, but it’s also unrelated to the presidency. As for your approval of same-sex “marriage,” it will wreak havoc on society. There is no groundswell for it and no president should ever consider himself a social engineer. Not now. Not ever. Should conservatives sell out and support you in primaries, or in a presidential election, then they become Republicans In Name Only just like you. They will deserve what they get. Many of them – including Sean Hannity – sold out for RINO Arnold Schwarzenegger in California and now they have gotten what they deserve – a liberal in power. If you win the Republican nomination, you will earn a dubious distinction. You will become the first GOP presidential nominee that I refuse to vote for in my lifetime. And if this party doesn't come back to its senses, I might never come back. I will sooner vote for real Republicans like congressmen Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter. The Constitution Party is guaranteed to field a better, more deserving and better grounded candidate than you are. This is nothing personal. You are entitled to your views, and people are free to support you. They will forfeit any right to claim conservative credentials in doing so. If you become president, I will wish you the best and pray for sound leadership emanating from the White House. But I am not confident of sufficient leadership coming from a Giuliani presidency. There will be far too little discernible difference between you and the Democrats. As well as the liberal Republicans and independents. That concerns me greatly. You might say that if I vote for the Constitution Party candidate, I will in effect vote for Hillary Clinton. That is nonsense. I won’t vote Clinton unless I actually mark my ballot in her favor. The best vote I can cast is the one that supports my personal views, ethics, worldview and morality. Based on those, I will have no trouble voting for anyone who is closely aligned with me on those factors. I will not hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils. I am not responsible for the success of RINOs. I will not look back years later with regrets for voting the RINO ticket. Neither will I go down the rabbit trail of voting for the candidate most likely to win. That is not a true vote; it is a meaningless waste of a vote. Many “conservatives” in California know exactly what I’m talking about. Most importantly, I am not beholden to the Republican Party when the Republican Party imitates the Left. If you get the nomination against Clinton, one thing is certain: that a liberal will occupy the White House. I want no part in that decision and refuse to participate in it. Republicans who opt for you and who settle for liberals will get what they deserve, and that is a party guaranteed to return to years of mediocrity and minority status. You can go forward and do what is best for you. Or you can step aside and do what is best for the country and allow a conservative base Republican to offer a real and genuine contrast to Mrs. Clinton.
