BOB HUGERI Roses for Walker, Thorns for Gonzo and Barry Young May 28, 2005 Offering my miscellaneous opinions on some recent happenings in Arizona We have tolerance preached to us by those who are the most intolerant among us. Maricopa Community College District Governing Board member Jerry Walker knows this all too well. It is absolutely beyond comprehension that there have been calls for this good man to resign and to have him removed from office over something he said, and, as usual, which has been very misrepresented in the media. We need to stand by him, show him our support and not let them take this good man down. Jerry asked me at least twice to help him during his campaign. I now wish that I had and most likely will in the future. We are supposed to tolerate a clearly deviant behavior, yet the politically correct do not tolerate what they call the intolerant. It sounds pretty intolerant to me. “Religion, morality, and knowledge, being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged." -- From the Northwest Ordinance signed into law by George Washington Now that we know that Arizona does not need illegal aliens to survive, after the recent boycott by illegals, perhaps it is time for those of us in this country legally to organize a boycott or a protest to let the politicians of both parties know that we are serious about stopping this criminal activity. Of course, it would have to be done on the weekend, as the vast majority of those who view criminals as wrong and want it stopped work for a living. Unfortunately, we could have a million protesters and it would barely make a blip on the media’s radar. "All persons shall bear arms, and every male person shall have in continual readiness a good musket or other gun, fit for service." -- Connecticut gun code of 1650.While I am now a huge Diamondbacks fan, it took me some time after the Bank One Ballpark stadium deal and hearing Jerry Colangelo saying that he is the “Steward of public money.” I am realizing something that I believe I knew all along, that baseball players are spoiled millionaires who get paid way too much money to play a kids' game three hours a day six months out of the year. There are those who say that if that’s what they get paid then that’s what they are worth. Well, not when there are taxpayer subsidies paying for their place of business. Now Luis Gonzalez, of whom I am a big fan, is upset that the television announcers are critical of the team. I would think the millions and millions of dollars taxpayers have spent on his would buy him thicker skin. At a recent event at Bank One Ballpark where little leaguers are allowed to walk across the warning track, the instructions read, “Do not ask for autographs and to be respectful, it is a privilege to be on the field.” We would not want to bother the poor spoiled millionaires with something as inconvenient as an autograph for the children of those who pay their salary and paid for the field. "Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom." -- Benjamin Franklin Talk radio host Barry Young (KFYI, Phoenix) has made fun of, impugned, and denigrated the Minutemen project for a couple of months now. He has stated over and over that the illegals will go somewhere else or that they will continue as soon as the Minutemen are gone. He has repeatedly stated how much of a failure it was. In my estimation, the Minutemen got the nation’s and indifferent politicians' attention about a serious problem, and they were the farthest thing from a failure. Perhaps now the negligent politicians of both parties will see that not only Arizonans, but most Americans want something done about the takeover of our culture and county. And now we come to find out that our very own government has told its employees not to arrest criminals as to make the Minutemen look unsuccessful. Sorry, Barry, once again you were wrong. "The Bible is the foundation upon which our republic rests." -- Andrew Jackson A final quick thought on a recent Swedish study that said there could possibly be a “gay gene.” If there were such a thing, would homosexuality not eventually wipe itself out? Looking at this behavior from the secular world, it is not natural in that every living thing is here for one reason and one reason only – to make more of the same. Looking at this behavior from the spiritual world, it is clear that God says this behavior is an abomination and detestable. Why would God create something and then say it is a sin?
