Holding Elected Officials’ Feet to the Fire

August 28, 2005

I recently read that the profits of the two biggest oil companies have gone up 30 percent over the last year. We all know what has happened to gas prices over that same time. Congressman Jeff Flake says that it is just the law of supply and demand why we are paying so much for gas as the oil companies’ profits skyrocket along with the prices. In an industry that is as regulated as the oil industry and where the government is basically responsible for supply and demand via limitations on drilling, building of refineries and taxation, would not then the government be responsible when oil companies gouge consumers, and your party, Mr. Flake, is in charge?

Those who say that evolution is fact, must be taught in schools as fact, and intelligent design cannot be taught in schools need to answer the question why is it that as we look at the stages of man’s evolution in the photos from a monkey to a Neanderthal to eventually modern man, one of those middle guys was drawn from just a single tooth, and we are supposed take everything they say as fact.

Why is it that at the road construction that goes on seemingly everywhere in the valley most of the time there is nobody working there. Should not there be workers there around the clock until the job gets done? We are always told to carpool or take the bus and how much our cars pollute, but then we sit for hours every week in construction zones that are not being worked on. Just think of the wasted time and money sitting in traffic because for some reason we cannot get three crews to work on the construction around the clock and get it done in one third or less time.

When Roe v Wade was enacted into law by the Supreme Court, they were told that not enacting it would cost tens of thousands of lives, and we are still told that today if it were overturned. That was one of the many underlying reason it was passed. Yet today those that came out with those “facts” back then have admitted they completely lied and made those numbers up and in fact it is less than 500.

I recently heard President George W. Bush hailing the newly-signed Highway Bill, saying that it will put hundreds of thousands to work. This is quite a Clintonesque statement -- not a statement from a supposed conservative Republican. It’s a bill loaded with over 6,000 pet projects paid for by the taxpayers. So we taxpayers are putting hundreds of thousands to work. Congratulate yourselves.

I regularly receive either phone calls or letters in the mail stating that my membership to the Republican Party has run out. A recent letter stated my membership had lapsed in the Arizona Republican Party and that I needed to send in $200. This is very misleading bordering on the underhanded tactics you would expect from the opposition.

Everybody should tell their parents and children they love them.

Why is it that when Judge Roy Moore ignored the law force was used, and when mayors of sanctuary cities such as Houston ignore the laws on immigration, nothing is done?

Government workers should be using small inexpensive, gas-efficient vehicles rather than big expensive gas guzzling trucks and cars.

Did anybody else notice that in that latest Star Wars movie, as Obi Wan is about to battle Annikan Skywalker, he says that only the bad guys see things in black and white? Is it not conservative Christians also who see things in black and white?

I don’t read the mainstream newspapers or watch the nightly news much anymore, but when I do watch it or even hear the news on KFYI Radio (Phoenix), I do not hear anybody put any blame on Governor Janet Napolitano for Arizona having the worst crime rate in the country. I do not hear her being blamed for the high gas prices, or for the illegal immigration problem, all of which she has the power to fix.

Congressman Flake as much as admitted the other night that nothing is going to be done to prevent illegal immigration and nothing will be done about those that are here already destroying our American culture. The only thing that will be done is to try and make some money off the deal. To all elected Republicans: WE ARE FED UP with you not holding true to the conservative principles we put you in there to uphold and especially not doing anything about this country’s, and especially this area’s No. 1 problem.

Lastly, after September 11, 2001, our church was overflowing. It was wonderful to see you all there. To those who have since found more important endeavors to fill your time, please come and join us again. You are always welcome.
