GUEST OPINION State Rep. Russell Pearce: Thank You for Standing with Me Dec. 18, 2006
Thank
You.
I want to
thank all of you who stuck with me during one of the worst and most
dishonest campaign seasons I have seen. I fought the temptation and
did not responded to any of the mistruths and in many cases out right
lies that were distributed by my opponent, liberal media, Arizona
Republic, the Democratic Party, ACORN, Arizona Interfaith (a sanctuary
pro-amnesty organization) and other liberal and open border crowds and
it is not going to stop, as they have an agenda and it not about what
is good for America and they will do what ever they can to render me
and others in effective. It won't work. This last November proved that
with the landslide win on the illegal alien propositions.
I trusted you
to know the truth; I do not believe in mudslinging campaigns and hope
we do not reward those that do. I certainly understand honest
disagreement and respect honest debate. As a limited government guy I
usually don't say this, but, there ought to be a law; “Truth in
Campaigning”.
Born and raised in Mesa and with over 35 years in law enforcement, as former chief deputy of the Sheriff’s Office, as your justice of the peace, as director of Motor Vehicle Division and as your state legislator with a record of standing up for families, traditional values, the rule of law, limited government, protecting our Constitutional liberties, 2nd Amendment rights, secure borders, lower taxes, less regulation and much more.
I am the only Arizona legislator and one of only seven legislators in the nation out of over 7,000 to have received the Hero of the Taxpayer Award by Americans for Tax Reform '04, Champion of the taxpayer by the Arizona Taxpayers Association, #1 legislator by the Goldwater Institute for protecting liberties and for limited government, given the “Friend of the Family” award by the Arizona Family Project, A+ by the NRA, 100% vote on pro life issues, and nationally recognized as a leader in securing our borders and putting America First.
As the appropriations chair and a part of the House Leadership Team I take pride in demanding and delivering a balanced budget, a healthy rainy day fund, for moving away from bonding to cash for school construction, $500 million tax relief for families, for accelerating our freeway system, for improved funding for education and teacher pay, school choice for parents, for a huge increase in gang and immigration enforcement creating the new "GIITEM" that was just gang enforcement to Gang and Immigration Enforcement (gang and immigration enforcement task force) to combat violent gangs and a growing illegal alien crime problem, I was the prime sponsor on two and promoted the four immigration proposals on the ballot that passed by an average of 75 percent; to keep violent illegal aliens in jail without bond, to establish “Official English” in the Arizona Constitution, to deny illegal aliens from suing U.S. Citizens and getting lottery pay outs, and to stop subsidizing illegal aliens for programs designed for U.S. Citizens and paid for by taxpayers. I successfully sponsored legislation to the put the U.S. Flag, Constitution and Bill of Rights in every single classroom in Arizona public schools, I authored Proposition 200 to stop voter and welfare fraud in the state; the first successful initiative of its kind in the U.S.
Promises
Made ... Promises Kept
One of the challenges is 67 percent of our state budget is predetermined by voter initiatives and entitlement programs and as such is on auto pilot and ties the hands of the legislature and does not allow them to move money to freeways, education and public safety as sometimes needs to be done. Most of the mandatory entitlement programs are socialist programs out side of the Constitutional requirements of government and are designed to solve social injustice, however in reality do great harm to this Republic and free market principles set up by our founders. This limits the ability to reduce taxes as these are mandates the legislature cannot change. We need to bring to the voters a Proposition to return the ability as required in Arizona Constitution for the legislature to appropriate all monies and then hold them accountable as we should. We live in a Republic, not a democracy where the majority rules. When God gave Moses the commandment "Thou shalt not steal," He didn't mean thou shalt not steal unless you have a majority vote.
All four illegal alien Propositions this past
November passed by an average of 75 percent!!! The polls continue to
have the illegal alien issue as the #1 issue, they want the borders
secured, the laws enforced. They are concerned about the violence,
the cost and the refusal to assimilate as well as the "illegal" part
of entering this nation.
I just returned from a Gang
Conference in Las Vegas where undercover reporters, cops, and a
former gang member in a protection program spoke and had videos of
the violence and culture of gangs. A danger most Americans have no
concept of or the violence and the magnitude of the threat. Most of
them were illegal aliens or children born here to illegal aliens.
"Our fathers-were heroes and
patriots-they fought-they conquered-and they bequeathed to us a rich
inheritance of liberty and empire which we have no right to
surrender." -Noah Webster.
I promise you I will stay the
course and put taxpayers and citizens first. President Reagan
reminded us "This country has lost control of its borders. And no
country can sustain that kind of position."
We must put America first. We
are a nation of laws. We, and our elected officials, must have the
courage -- the fortitude -- to enforce, with compassion but without
apology, those laws that protect the integrity of our borders and
our rights as lawful citizens.
