Educators, Professionals, Legislators Send Wrong Message on Sanctity of Human Life

It’s no wonder that a culture of life has been blunted in recent decades when educators, legislators, medical and professional people support the right to kill unborn children. Now, for the second time, The Arizona Conservative presents the list of persons donating to the pro-choice Arizona WISH List. WISH is an acronym for Women In Senate and House.

The lengthy list below details names and employers of WISH List supporters and the amount of money they donated to the “Republican Party” organization in the years 2005 and 2006.

The Republican Party has officially supported the sanctity of human life in its platform since Ronald Reagan first ran for president. However, Arizona GOP officials have recognized WISH List leaders at official party functions in recent years, angering the party's conservative, pro-life base.

The WISH List seeks to identify, recruit, train and fund women to run for public office as “pro-choice Republicans.”

One would hope that educators would teach students that human life has special value and that it should be protected from beginning to end. However, many leading Arizona educators demonstrate just the opposite in their personal lives, as attested by the Arizona Secretary of State’s roster of WISH List donors. Among them is the state’s top “educator” – Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne.

Among the other education field leaders donating to the WISH List are Lattie Coor, former president of Arizona State University; Judith Gignac-Leininger, former member of the Arizona Board of Regents; and Tammy Linn, director, Character Education, Arizona Department of Education.

Current and former state legislators who donated to WISH List: Sue Gerard, Carolyn Allen, Michele Reagan, Roberta Voss, Carole Hubbs, Linda Binder, Marian McClure, Betsey Bayless, Carol Somers, John Greene and Toni Hellon.

Former Gov. Jane Hull gives money to the WISH List, as does former ABC Television personality Hugh Downs and former Scottsdale mayor Sam Campana.

Kris Mayes, a former press secretary for liberal Gov. Janet Napolitano and current member of the Arizona Corporation Commission, is a financial supporter, too.

Deb Carstens, a board member of the WISH List’s national organization, is the state’s largest benefactor of WISH, donating $17,750. William Carstens, an investor, has given $12,000 to help an organization aiming to block pro-life legislation.

The list below demonstrates that many professionals support an agenda dedicated to preserving abortion rights. Social science research has proven that abortion is seldom a woman's choice; many women are coerced into abortions by other people.
